Coffee House, Tapas Bar and Food Store - Caracoli rely on a flexible Octepos retail EPOS system
Inspired by the food and drinks they see and taste on their travels around the world, Gail and Chris Nichols founded Caracoli; to share the best their experiences have to offer. Set in the picturesque Hampshire town of Alresford, Caracoli is a unique coffee house, food and gift shop which is already well known for the national and international delicacies it has on offer. "We’ve been established for four and a half years now and all products we provide have a story behind them. You will find it hard to pick them up anywhere else or certainly in any normal supermarket," indicated James Nichols, the son of Gail and Chris, who came onboard as General Manager and Director in May 2008.

The coffee house offers a great range of specialist coffees, teas, smoothies and boutique wines, as well as artisan bread, homemade cakes, and biscuits - all served in a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. As well as from the high quality of their products Caracoli’s management also places great value upon long term relationships and high customer satisfaction. In order to live up to and further build their fantastic local reputation, the team at Caracoli decided to invest in a modern and more flexible EPOS system.
"The EPOS system we used before was a little prehistoric. We needed a more advanced one; something with the ability to integrate into a stock management system with ease." Advised by an independent IT-company, James got in touch with Octepos, a London EPOS company. "Octepos was one of a few EPOS companies that were able to provide us with a proper system," reports James.
After he had discussed the specialities of his business with the team at Octepos the EPOS Company started designing a bespoke software solution for him. On the day of installation Octepos in-house build team brought the integrated software and hardware solution on site and conducted a training session for the staff, enabling them to manage the till without any difficulty.
"It was very easy to adapt to the new system and a great step forward. It meets our requirements very well and brought a lot of transparency and flexibility to our business," says James. "The easiest way to get used to the system, however, is using it on a daily basis."
Meanwhile the EPOS system became a well-integrated and valued partner for Caracoli. The team does not only benefit from the core functions of the system but also from the Stock Control, Accounts and Customer Loyalty modules which are installed by default. Accurate information reports on stock movements, sales operations, and customer accounts, along with historical data and future trade trends, help the Caracoli team work more efficiently and effectively.
"The support team is very professional and efficient. Whenever I faced a problem they were there to assist me." This is a service all Octepos customers can rely on. Issues can be resolved directly via remote access, or they are recorded and tracked in the Octepos call management system to ensure consistent and effective resolution.
Reflecting on the experience he made James finally concludes: "I would definitely buy an EPOS retail system off Octepos again. It’s a very good system with great potential."
