AWT's Windsor Larder - Retail Case Study
Anthony Worrall Thompson’s Windsor Larder is located just outside Windsor town centre. The perfect place for a breakfast coffee and croissant, quick lunchtime snack or, on warmer days, a picnic basket to enjoy by the river, it has an enthusiastic following of local customers. As well as the finest in locally sourced produce, Windsor Larder offers fully prepared dishes for customers to take home; perhaps to pass off as their own at a dinner party or perhaps to enjoy as a private indulgence.
Behind the scenes, the management team rely upon a cutting edge integrated EPOS system from Octepos to control sales, operations and commercial data.
When Worrall Thompson and business partner David Wilby took over the business 18 months ago, they found the legacy systems incapable of supporting their business. They required a solution which would improve the customer experience in-store and which the staff would find easy to use. Additionally, they needed a back-office management package;an automated and reliable source of the data critical to the efficient running and growth of the enterprise.
After evaluating a wide range of Epos systems, Windsor Larder chose Octepos because the business offered the most appropriate solution to meet the specific needs of Windsor Larder.
“Octepos stood out because of the simplicity of the system and its value for money,” Wilby comments. “We decided we would go with someone who knew retail. Many EPOS systems are tailored only toward the hospitality market; the restaurant ones are very different and don’t cater for things such as bar code reading.”
Working to Windsor Larder’s requirements, the Octepos development team built a retail Epos system incorporating stock, account and customer loyalty modules. For front of house operations, Octepos configured Toshiba ST-A10 terminals, pre-loading and testing the full set of scales, printers, scanners and card readers needed to deliver the functionality sought. Windsor Larder remains extremely happy with the solution they chose.
Thinking about the ongoing evolution of the system since installation, Wilby says, “One of the key benefits of the software is how easy it is to customise to the needs of our business. We can make changes ourselves to the product and pricing menus; thereby helping to maintain a proactive response to market conditions and the requirements of our customers.”
As well as the system itself, Windsor Larder takes advantage of Octepos’ ongoing support. Wilby concludes, “We make small tweaks, and then when we are unsure how to do something more intricate within the system we call the Octepos Support Team. Support has been very good; whenever we have needed anything done it has been done straight away.”
